January 30th – 10:00 am
- Delta Payet
– Owner of “Delta in Skin”
“ Have you ever wondered what Microdermiabrasion feels like?”
- find out how this treatment works
– find out how to treat and reverse sun damaged skin
“Also Known as the “Lunch Time Peel” This treatment is for the wrinkles, sun-damage, acne/acne scars, too much oil, too little oil, stretch marks, pore size, the bumps on the back of the arms to unwanted pigmentation and yes, even those ingrowns. How it works: A closed loop system utilizes both highly regulated suction and pressure that moves inert abrasive crystals over the surface of the skin. This action causes no pain while it removes the outer layer of the skin.”

Kerstin’s Herbal Corner – Staying Healthy

?
Staying healthy at home as kids head back to school.
?
While in Germany, we heard about the “Schweinegrippe” (swine flu) as it is daily? headline news.? Many German kids are in school until late July and the flu bug showed no mercy this summer in the US either, affecting camps across the country and sending many kids home sick with the flu.? ? While some of the stories are a bit hyped and overblown, no one likes to get sick.
?
Now that children are back in school and socializing with others, what’s the most natural way to protect you and your family?? ? Below are? five suggestions of what to do when your son or daughter brings home more than just homework!
?
-
Start by incorporating more black tea in your diet -? Black tea has been shown to have anti-viral properties and? it is also an immunity booster.
-
Consider herbal infusions: Elderberry, astragulus, lapacho, in addition to Cold Chaser are all great additions to tea to keep you healthy.? ? Elderberry can also be made into a syrup to help at the first sign of symptoms.?
-
Besides drinking herbal remedies, reduce stress to help ward off a bug.? ? Sitting down to enjoy a cup of tea is a great way to slow down for a moment.? Choose what works for you be it exercise, yoga, or whatever.
-
Consider infusions rich in vitamin C.? Hibiscus and fruit blends fall under this category.
-
Arm yourself with information.? Learn more about natural herbal medicine, or consult a Naturopathic doctor and learn how the body can heal itself.? ? ? Take a class
?
While natural remedies can shorten the course of an illness, it is best to take steps before symptoms appear.

It’s All about the Tea
|
|
?
We were invited in July to visit one of our suppliers in Germany.? As you know, we like the Germans due to the excellent flavorings and vigilance over things that do not belong in Tea,? ? We spent several hours tasting over 60 teas both flavored and Orthodox.?
?
Tasting this many teas requires that one does not actually swallow them but it is a great exercise and helps determine the relative tastes and quality of teas.? We tasted teas and herbals covering the price, flavor, and quality spectrums.
?
The result?? You’ll be seeing some new teas in the fall some not currently available from any other source in the USA.? ?
?
We continue to explore new ways of staying in touch.? ? Dozens of you? are following ua on Twitter – we are posting the teas of the days, interesting news items on tea and other items? that may be of interest.? ? We have recently also started a Facebook page.
? ?
? Our goal is always to educate and enlighten our customers about tea and herbals.? We hope the web based technologies enhance that.
? ?

Bret Wingert, owner of Souvia Tea in Phoenix, is a charter member of Local First Arizona. He said the ubiquitous chain Starbucks blocked his early attempts to open a store.
Anybody who has started up their own business knows that its not easy, he said. Starbucks takes over a lot of the retail space and then excludes anyone else who might be in a remotely related business.
Wingert eventually found a shopping center in North Phoenix and has operated there since 2006.
Winger said Local First Arizona provides great technical and business-oriented information, as well as networking opportunities.
Also, its kind of a support group, he said. You could commiserate with people about the problems that small business people encounter.
As for hard economic times, Winger said hes not participating in the downturn.
Im not getting sucked into the negative energy and were continuing to do business as we have, he said. We all know those unique local places that we love, that we like to go back to, and thats what Local First Arizona is all about.

The Back Rub Co. Gives Back, July 20-26
Souvia Tea, Strawberry Hedgehog join Massage Week effort
Each July, the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) sponsors EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week, an event geared towards helping those less fortunate, while raising the profession’s visibility. This year, The Back Rub Company, the valley’s largest on-site massage and wellness firm, has teamed up with ABMP to participate in the program.
From July 20-26, The Back Rub Company will donate 10% of its profits from each massage scheduled at one of their four valley clinics (Central and South Phoenix, South Scottsdale and Mesa) to 100 Club of Arizona. The organization provides assistance to the surviving families of public safety officers and firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
“We hope to help the 100 Club as they raise funds to embark on a Hero’s Quest,” says Tiffany Richards, The Back Rub Company owner. “It’s a 3,500 mile bicycle journey from Phoenix to Panama City in an effort to raise at least $50,000 for the families of these real-life heroes.”
The Back Rub Company has also enlisted the help of other Local First member businesses, Souvia Tea, the valley’s premiere tea? shop and Strawberry Hedgehog, the Maricopa City-based makers of handmade vegan and eco-friendly bath and body products. Clients will receive a gift certificate for a pot of tea from Souvia as well as a complimentary half-pound jar of handmade bath salts from Strawberry Hedgehog.
“We’re excited to participate in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week this year,” says Richards. “Anything to help others and educate the community about the benefits of massage is a great thing.”
